Short-mat bowls are held on Tuesday and Friday afternoons at 1:45pm for 2:00pm start.
Help is needed to put out the rinks.
While on the mat, bowls shoes should be worn; outside shoes are not allowed on the mat.
The central heating will be on, so to help cover the cost of staying warm, £1.00 per player to be deposited in the honesty jar/tin.
For those who have never played short-mat, the rules are simple:
-
like normal outside games, a bowler delivers their wood off a mat placed at the end of the carpet where there is a “ditch” and a wooden guard
-
when delivering the wood, one foot should be on the mat and the other inside the tramlines
-
the wood has to stay on the carpet, avoiding the wooden block in the middle, to land as near the jack, but within the home lines
-
if the wood doesn’t reach the home line, then it is taken out
-
if the wood reaches the ditch without touching the jack, then it is taken off the carpet
-
scoring is just like the outside game.
We hope that many of our members will take the opportunity to play short mat as the club is making an effort to provide some gentle exercise.
Feedback received – “we enjoy the chance to meet and play with friends. It is a good opportunity to get out of the house on dismal winter days for gentle exercise and a chance to catch up on any news”.
