Pasta & Bowls
Saturday 22nd August saw 24 bowlers take part in Frank’s brainchild of a pasta and bowls event. The basis of this was to have a fun social bowl to include as many new members as possible playing with experienced members and enjoy a meal and chatter afterwards with non-playing members.
The bowls was 3 matches for each team of triples playing 3 ends. The closest 3 bowls on each end would score, 3points for closest to the jack, 2 points for 2nd closest and 1pt for 3rd closest. There was also a side competition for the new members where their closest 2 bowls would score 2 and 1 point respectively. Once the team skips or No. 2s got their heads around this scoring system the matches flowed and produced some great bowling with lots of banter between everyone.
The teams were:
Team 1: Andrew Beattie, Di Jackson & Cyn Blakes
Team 2: Ian Colpitts, Jane Wonnacott & John Roper
Team 3: Pete Bowyer, Susan Elliott & Steve Langridge
Team 4: Dave Blakes, Alan Jackson & Rob Tull
Team 5: Anne Beatie, Gill Shaw & Mary King
Team 6: Mike Poole, David Selby & Alan Cropp
Team 7: Dave Hill, Beverley Bradford & Ian Cogger
Team 8: Barry Smith, Anya Parles & Nicky Plumb
The winning team would be the one scoring the most points, with countback coming down to points difference and then matches won. The final result required a further option of countback which was matches drawn. Congratulations to Team 3, led by Pete Bowyer. Final scores are below
| Team | W | D | L | F | A | Diff |
| 3 | 2 | 1 | 34 | 20 | 14 | |
| 1 | 2 | 1 | 34 | 20 | 14 | |
| 6 | 3 | 32 | 22 | 10 | ||
| 7 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 25 | 29 | -4 |
| 5 | 1 | 2 | 24 | 30 | -6 | |

| 4 | 1 | 2 | 22 | 32 | -10 | |

There were 3 prizes for the new bowlers and 1st place was awarded to the player with the most points and if countback was required how many matches their team won. There was then a prize for the best male and female bowler.

The bowling was followed by a fabulous meal of either meat, fish or vegetarian pasta, accompanied by garlic bread and a dessert of pavlova or cheesecake.
After the prize giving Ian Colpitts organized a game of killer darts that provided plenty of entertainment and the competitive side of a few people came to the fore. The fitting winner of this was Frank.
A massive thanks to Frank and Denise for the meal they spent many hours preparing and cooking. Thanks also go to Anya, Mary, Gill & Anne for assisting with the serving of the food, Andrew & Mike for helping behind the bar, Ian for the post meal entertainment and Nicky for checking everyone in and backing me up with my plan for the competition.
Finally, thanks to everyone who took part in the event and helped with clearing up both the bowls green and dishes after the match.
