Fish & Chip Lunch 18th November
Following on from the suggestion from FB to hold a Fish & Chip lunch for members in the Clubhouse, it was agreed that we should aim to hold this event on Wednesday 18th November and contact the membership to see how many plan to attend. IC offered to enquire with Hoy Che Fish & Chip shop in Shoplands, WGC re price and delivery and IC will poll the membership via Whatsapp and email.
Live Music evening
It was agreed to arrange an Elvis tribute act in the Clubhouse for members and guests in February 2027. An artiste has been identified and FB offered to make contact with him to discuss availability. It was agreed that the ticket price would be set at £15 p/h. This would cover the artiste’s fee of £250 for 2 x 45 minute sets whilst also injecting funds into the Club. We anticipate around 50 attendees who will be encouraged to bring table snacks and the bar will be open for refreshments. The date and timings of the event are TBC but we suggest 7.30 for 8pm with the entertainment concluding at 10pm.
Quiz Night
It was hoped that a pre-Christmas quiz night could be arranged but this now doesn’t seem viable. Clive Head has agreed to host a quiz on Friday 19th March 2027 (7.30 for 8pm) with the usual arrangements being made for a fish & chip supper midway through the quiz. The bar will be open for refreshments. It was agreed that a £5 p/h entry charge will provide for prizes and heating/lighting, etc.
Petanque Competition
Andy Haig is planning to hold a taster session on Monday afternoon, 5th October following which Team Captains will be encouraged to arrange dates and times for fixtures. IC will arrange for the membership and Team Captains to be advised.
Games Nights Every Friday night
Beginning on Friday 2nd October from 7.30 until 10pm and every Friday during the close season unless otherwise advised. A range of board games, card games and darts will be available with attendees encouraged to bring snacks to share. The bar will be open for refreshments. IC will message members with details.
Christmas Lunch
Sunday 13th December 12.30 for 1pm has been chosen to host our Christmas Lunch in the Clubhouse. We agreed a price of £20 p/h (in advance) for a 3 course lunch. IC has offered to lead on the food preparation assisted by FB and DB. Other volunteers will be needed to assist with setting up, serving and clear up. IC will arrange to advise the membership and ascertain those wishing to attend.
Coffee Mornings
The next Coffee Morning will be held on Friday 30th October at 10am in the Clubhouse. Efforts will be made to secure a ‘speaker’ for the event. DB has undertaken to liaise with Sheila Grimmant on this with Paul Jiggens or Orange Hamm Coach Company being considered. £5 entry for coffee and cake. Offers of cake baking for this event will be sought. Any proceeds will be split between the Club and a local charity. Theatre Trips IC has undertaken to make enquiries with The Barn Theatre, WGC with a view to a block booking for The Barn’s Christmas production of ‘The Box of Delights’ (10th to 19th December). This is a stage adaptation of John Masefield’s classic story of magic, fantasy and saving the future of Christmas. Ticket price is £16. Further details to follow.
