Rhianna Shines in BIIBC International Series for England

Last weekend, the British Isles Indoor Bowls Council (BIIBC) International series saw sixteen under 25 women representing England against their neighbouring nations in Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. Amongst the team of talented young bowlers, Rhianna stood out with her outstanding performance.

On the opening day of the series, England faced Wales, while Scotland played against Ireland. Despite the slow carpet, England’s quick start enabled them to establish a 25-shot lead after just eight ends. Rhianna, along with her teammates Alice Phillimore, Chloe Brett, and Nicole Rogers, dominated their opponents with a score of 20-0. England continued to dominate the game and eventually won the match with an overall score of 94-52.

The other match saw a strong Scottish team playing against a very young Irish team with an average age of just 15, including two 12-year-olds. The Scottish team dominated the match, winning 108-47.

In the second round of matches, Wales played Scotland, and England played Ireland. Scotland won against Wales with a score of 92-49, while England dominated Ireland, winning the match 110-50. The stage was set for the final “winner takes all” match on Sunday between England and Scotland. Scotland got off to a good start and maintained a 20-shot lead a third of the way through the game. Despite their best efforts England could not catch up with the Scottish team, who ultimately won the game with a convincing 35-shot lead, securing the BIIBC International series title. Nevertheless, Rhianna’s outstanding performance throughout the tournament earned her the title of England’s Most Consistent Player.

SADBA Presidents Invitation Shield

OUR FIRST CLUB TROPHY OF THE YEAR

Congratulations to our team of Paddy Jones, Peter Bowyer, Len Tye and Martin Reeve who, on Sunday, won the SADBA Presidents Invitation Shield match played at Hatfield.

We were invited as the winners of the Bob Vise Trophy and competed against Welwyn Garden City (winners of the Jones Cup), Hemel Hempstead (winners of the Triples League) and Harpenden (winners of the Club Rink League). Each team played against a SADBA select team with the team with the overall shot difference being the winner. In a close competition we came out on top with a shot difference of plus 10 shots with Hemel Hempstead coming second just three shots behind.

Congratulations again and let’s hope this is the first trophy of many in 2023.

January 2023 – International Honours for Rhianna

CONGRATULATIONS RHIANNA

Rhianna won her first international honours last weekend representing England in the U18 British Isles International Series in Solihull. Competing in the mixed pairs with George Hopper she won a bronze medal coming third behind Scotland A and B.

England had two teams competing in each of the formats against the Channel Islands, Ireland, Scotland and Wales over two days. A strong start on Friday saw her and her partner win all their matches, finishing top of their group and qualifying for the medal matches on Saturday. Unfortunately, Scotland’s two teams proved too strong for the pair and they finished third. This was however a tremendous result for Rhianna playing in her first match for England.

Rhianna also played in the fours. They narrowly failed to qualify for the medal matches however went on to finish 5th, missing out on 4th place on points difference.

Rhianna will next be representing England in the U25 Women’s British Isles International Series against Scotland, Wales and Ireland in Ffrith, Wales on 11th and 12th February
