Rhianna Russell,16, was crowned Ladies National Two Bowl Singles Champion 2022 at the Bowls England National Finals held at Royal Leamington Spa. Having qualified for the finals by becoming Hertfordshire champion, Rhianna played 5 games in the run-up to the final, including the semi-final where she beat the reigning champion and Bowls England Bowler of the Year 2021, Stef Branfield of Somerset. In the final against Jennifer Southby of Kent, despite going behind early on, Rhianna rallied to win 14-12 in a closely fought contest, to become the youngest ever Champion.
It’s been a busy time for Rhianna, having also qualified in the women’s pairs, triples and fours, fresh off the back of a set of successful GCSE results. Rhianna, who took up bowls at the age of 10, attends Ridgeway Academy in Welwyn Garden City. After the trophy presentation, Rhianna thanked her parents Phil and Clara for the time and effort they have put in over the years to support her progress to such a high level in the sport. She also thanked all those that took the time to watch and support her during the competition. All of the members of her club would like to congratulate her on this achievement at such a young age.
