A maximum of six socially distanced members in the clubhouse are allowed per session and you will need to book on the rink booking system

  • The rink-booking-system is now active for short-mat bowls. If you are booking for a group, please select the number of rinks that is in your group, and put the other attendee’s details in as well. in the normal way when you book on the main green. For example, if there were six people in your group, take six rinks in that time slot. https://www.welwynbowls.co.uk/rink-diary/

  • Times will be 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm.

  • Just like outside on the green, we must sanitise, before and after, all equipment, jack, mat and any club bowls.

    • While on the mat bowls shoes should be worn, outside shoes not allowed on the mat.

    • The kitchen remains closed, so no tea or coffee to be made.

    • There are no glasses/plastic tumblers available in the drinks fridge.

    • The central heating will be on, but the clubhouse should be ventilated.

    • There is a token cost of £1.00 per player to be deposited in the honesty jar/tin.

  • For those who have never played short-mat the rules are simple and like normal outside games, with a bowler delivering their wood off a mat placed at the end of the carpet where a there is a “ditch” and a wooden guard, the wood then has to stay on the carpet avoiding the wooden block in the middle to land as near the jack, but within the home lines. If the wood doesn’t reach the home line then it is taken out and if it reaches the ditch without touching the jack then it is taken off the carpet. Scoring is just like the outside game.

  • When delivering the wood one foot should be on the mat and the other inside the tramlines.

  • We hope that more members will take the opportunity to play short mat as the club is making an effort to provide some gentle exercise through the continuing restriction brought upon society by Coronavirus.

We enjoy the chance to meet and play with friends it is a good opportunity to get out of the house on dismal winter days for gentle exercise and a chance to catch up on any news.

Feel free to have a drink when you are bowling
