We at Welwyn & District Bowls Club are a mixed inclusive club, and we provide facilities/coaching support to welcome bowlers who have a disability. Bowls is an active mixed team sport for all, young and older members. If you, your family or friends have an illness, disability or are recovering from a condition, for example, a stroke, you will receive a warm welcome at our club.
The sport of Bowls can be played by almost anyone, with or without a disability. Bowlers with a disability can compete with or against non-disabled bowlers in most situations. It is one of the most accessible and integrated sports readily available.
We have our own car park. Access to our clubhouse and patio from our car park is less than 30m along a flat path. The green is then less than 20m away from the patio, down a ramp with a handrail.
We have a range of equipment available, including a wheelchair and a walking frame (see details below) for use on our green. Our team of qualified coaches are able to provide help and assistance.
The clubhouse has an accessible disabled WC and refreshment patio area.
If you can walk, please bring along a pair of flat-soled shoes.
Why not call us now or pop along and take a look. Chat on the patio and enjoy a drink. Please contact us to arrange a visit on the green. We are just a call or email away. Please see our website for map location.
The walking frame, is fitted with four Bowls England approved 80mm wheels, making it easy to use on the green. It can be found in the disabled toilet, just inside the main clubhouse door.
Do use it on our green, this walking frame is designed for a flat green, so when used on grass, it doesn’t run away from you.
Don’t use it on the paths, it doesn’t have any brakes and is unsteady on anything other than a flat green. Please ask another member to take it to the green if you need to.
